Outline of the group, its aims and ambitions.

Our monthly meetings were usually held on the last Wednesday of the month in Callington Town Hall from 6.00pm until up to 8.00pm. They provided an opportunity to meet other people in exactly the same situation as ourselves. Our aim was to offer a safe, non-medical and welcoming environment where people can ask questions, learn, and share information.

For some meetings specialist speakers were arranged, and on other occasions, there were semi-structured discussions or other activities.

We have had some interesting speakers including a local GP on prostate cancer diagnosis, a urology consultant, a specialist oncology nurse from Derriford, a specialist nurse from Prostate Cancer UK, someone from Macmillan and, among others, a personal trainer who wants to make us all fitter!

During the coronavirus pandemic we could no longer hold face-to-face meetings, but we continued to hold monthly meetings virtually using Zoom. Zoom has turned out to be very easy to use and we can provide guidance to those who are not familiar with it. It has actually been easier to get guest speakers this way and we have had some excellent discussions.

Our aim now is to raise awareness of prostate cancer throughout the wider community by attending local shows and giving presentations by invitation to local groups.
